Neil T. Anderson wrote a book many years ago
called, “Victory Over The Darkness – Realizing The Power of Your Identity in
Christ”. Reading this book was a turning
point in my life as I realized who I really was. I also realized that Satan knew who I was.
With this information I was able to see back through my personal history and
identified several plots Satan had designed for my demise. Some in which he found
me a willing participant. Plots to ruin my reputation. Plots to destroy my spirit. Plots to kill me.
But, God had other plans and kept me safely for His own. I was… I am… His.
Here
is an excerpt from the introduction of Neil’s book:
Freedom
for me came from being able to see the stark contrast of who I was in my own
eyes, clouded with the turmoil of Satan’s lies wound tightly in the
consequences of my sin, and who I am in God.
The truth is - God sees Jesus when He looks at me. Jesus is wonderful and I am wonderful too because
my life is now in Him. 2nd Corinthians 5:17 reads, “Therefore, if
anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone,
the new is here!” If the old is gone, I
can no longer say I am stupid, ugly, or unworthy. I am, instead, wise,
beautiful, and beloved. True freedom
comes from living in our new identity, seeing the lies that Satan attempts to
trap us in, and daily putting off the old way of thinking that come from the
old vision of ourselves.
Now,
remember – there is nothing that can be done to make the positive attributes be
who you are. If you have Jesus as your
Lord, then you are already in Him and you
already are these attributes. When you behave outside of who you really
are- you are living the lie. You may not
feel like the positive attributes are real but its not about feelings
- it’s about Truth and Faith.
**Lord, thank you for being my Lord and
Savior. Please change my vision of
myself and instill a new level of trust that if I walk in the truth of who I
really am - you will be faithful to reveal the lies of Satan I have previously accepted.
Forgive me for believing him instead of
you. Today I choose your victory over
the darkness.**
Wow! This is pretty powerful stuff! Just think what power we would all exhibit if we, as Christians, actually believed the truth abouth ourselves: that G od sees us as Jesus because of what he did for us! We could do as much or more than Jesus did here on Earth! Thanks for the reminder
