By the early 1830s,
Theodore D. Weld, William Lloyd Garrison, Arthur and Lewis Tappan, and Elizur
Wright, Jr., all spiritually nourished by revivalism, had taken up the cause of
“immediate emancipation.” Although abolitionist feelings had been
strong during the American Revolution and in the Upper South during the 1820s,
the abolitionist movement did not become a militant crusade until the 1830s. In
the previous decade powerful evangelical religious movements arose to impart
spiritual direction to society. By stressing the moral imperative to end sinful
practices and each person’s responsibility to uphold God’s will in society,
preachers like Lyman Beecher, Nathaniel Taylor, and Charles G. Finney in what
came to be called the Second Great Awakening and led massive religious revivals
in the 1820s that gave a major start to the later emergence of abolitionism. http://www.history.com/topics/black-history/abolitionist-movement
You may to shocked to discover that slavery is alive and well
today. It is found in the things that control our daily lives. We all have something… You
probably know yours. Food, Wine,
Cigarettes, Cat Video Addiction, Facebook, Shopping, Sex, Drugs, Video Games,
Worry, Fear, or a Relationship? You fill in the bank _____________________.
If you don’t really
know, you can find out what is is with this simple evaluation: What do you feel bad about after you do it? What do you feel you couldn’t control the
impulse to do? For many of us these things have been create as coping tools – they soothe us. But they can not heal us and, in fact, they be
come a detriment to our lives.
This is the thing that
is your master. It’s hard to hear it in those terms but in reality you are
chained and shackled to it’s control. Even Christians can have these things.
They may not control every part of our lives, or our heart, but they certainly
can interfere with the wholeness God wants us to enjoy. We should be enjoying
life as Christ would. Free of _____________. Here’s what the word says about slavery to
those things:
“For
you did not receive the spirit of slavery
to fall back into ___________ , but you have received the spirit of sonship by
which we cry, “Abba! Father!” Romans 8:15
God knew from the beginning of
all humans the struggles we would face and the slavery, created by the kidnapper and importer of mind-control (the
devil!), that would need to be abolished. Hear the words by the Apostle Paul as he also
encouraged the new Church in Rome to receive the true self and abolishment of Satan’s
slavery: “I am speaking in
human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once yielded
your body to impurity and to greater and greater iniquity, so now yield every
part of your life to righteousness for sanctification.” Romans 6:19
Our bodies and our minds
are remarkable. The body can produce chemicals that make us grow, make us
dizzy, and can make us sleepy. It can
also produce little cells that eat diseases. Our minds can tell us something is
true when all it really did was twist what our eyes saw. It can also instantly work
a solution to the most complex problems. The body and the mind are influenced
by many internal and external elements. And because of that, they can’t be
trusted.
As Paul states, they
have natural limitations. But our God has a SUPER-Natural solution at our
disposal. We just have to participate in the solution using our obedience and
the love of righteousness above our human inclinations and the draw of our
personal thing called _____________. Let
us choose the freedom offered by the true abolistionist – God !
**Lord, show
me what I am enslaved to. Reveal the lies
I have trusted - instead of putting my faith in you. Forgive me for giving into
to the pull of _____________. I want the freedom you promise. Today I accept
and welcome the abolishment of the slave mentality I have let rule my life. You are my Daddy and I love you!!! Help me to
see myself as part of your royal family, which is my true self. **

of a laser tattoo removal. It’s the pain Satan wants you to think you will
endure when you walk away from the thing that controls you. It won’t be easy,
but this is the lie Satan wants to use to build fear so you won’t leave it
behind for the freedom found in God. For some the release is instant and for
some it’s a process. Everyone is different…. Trusting God knows what you NEED to
build YOUR faith is the key.
Next time Satan tells you it’s
easier to just give in rather than endure this pain, tell him he is a liar and remind him of the power of God –
Your Daddy!
